Trying on Trials

Trials can come in all sizes and shapes. And most of the time we don’t go out “shopping” for trials. I mean, how crazy would it be to actually look for trials and how they fit into your wardrobe of life! That wouldn’t seem to make much sense at all… or would it? Now I’m not suggesting that you go out and try to get into tough situations on purpose. That would be dumb. Rather when you do find yourself in a hard place, look at how it fits into your life. Those trials actually dress up our spiritual wardrobe and change us into how Jesus looks. It’s the process we call sanctification. Or as Shai Linne raps about in The Atonement Q & A, “We’re being made into His likeness” James 1:2-4 says,

2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

When we find ourselves trying on trials we should be stoked! What an opportunity to glorify God in giving us grace to endure it! Here is a good saying to remember anytime you see yourself trying on a trial,

Look not HOW you can get out of a trial, but WHAT you can get out of a trial.

God has hand tailored every trial you have ever had and will try on. The fit is perfect every time and is made to dress you up into the image of Jesus. They are given to you to complete your spiritual wardrobe. And even though the trial isn’t always comfortable, like a tux, it makes you look amazing! So when God hands you a perfectly tailored trial, don’t fight putting it on. Slide into it with expectation that in the end you will have a spiritual beauty you didn’t have before.”
